It is with great difficulty that we must announce another price increase within the past month. This decision is not taken lightly, but it is essential for us to continue our operations.
You may have heard about the significant shortfall in the global cocoa harvest, which has drastically driven up the cost of our base chocolate. To give you a clearer picture, here’s what we’ve been paying per kilogram over the past nine months:
October 2023: €7.95
January 2024: €8.90
March 2024: €9.20
June 2024: €13.00
As of July 1st, 2024, the price has surged to €18.20 per kilogram. This is more than double what we paid in January and is unsustainable over the long term.
At Buíoch, our commitment is to deliver delicious chunks of chocolate enhanced with one or two flavours. This is our core value and something we are not willing to compromise. Reducing the weight of chocolate per unit to maintain lower prices would only diminish the value and experience you expect from us, which is not an option.
Changing suppliers is also not viable, as we have tested alternatives and none match the quality of our current chocolate. Additionally, all our packaging is printed with specific ingredients, nutritional information, and weight, making changes impractical.
Thank you for your continued support and understanding. This price increase is not permanent. We have been assured that prices will eventually decrease, although the exact timing is uncertain.
Warm Regards,
The Buíoch Team
